How the calculator works
Re-weighted score = sum of (criterion score x adjusted weight) / sum of adjusted weights. Adjusted weights: exact place 30.0, story recall 20.0, formats 10.0, any book 10.0, platforms 10.0, price 10.0, privacy 10.0.
- Start from the published weights: place 30, recall 20, formats 10, catalogue 10, devices 10, price 10, privacy 10.
- Formats: if all three are ticked, formats weight x 2; if exactly one is ticked, formats weight x 0.5; if none is ticked, treat it as Print only.
- Breaks: A day or two, recall x 0.5; About a week, x 1; Weeks or longer, recall x 1.5.
- Genres: No or not sure, catalogue x 3.
- Paying: I want it free, price x 3.
- Privacy: A lot, privacy x 3.
- Phone: Android removes every app with no Android version from the ranking and lists it under "Not on Android yet" with its platforms.
- Re-weighted score = sum(score x adjusted weight) / sum(adjusted weights), shown to two decimals; rank by the exact value; ties share a rank.

Does the calculator test the apps?
No. It re-weights our published scores using your answers. The scores come from public listings, vendor facts read September 2026, updated 2026-10-11.
Why do some apps disappear when I choose Android?
Magic Bookmark runs on iPhone only, with Android on its roadmap, and Literal lists Android as coming soon. Apps that do not run on your phone are listed separately instead of ranked.
How is the Magic Bookmark cost worked out?
It costs one credit per book, and credits never expire, so the calculator picks the cheapest mix of the published packs that covers the books you entered.
Why are the other costs shown as $0?
Every other app here has a free way to start. Their paid tiers are optional and add features such as deeper stats; we show the yearly price so you can compare, but we do not add it to the total.
